Our education requires no prior knowledge of finance and takes students from the basics of finance to being able to perform expert valuations throughout the semester. For the first half of an analyst’s first semester, they participate in our Generalist Education Program where they learn about the basics of accounting, valuation methodologies, and financial modeling. We train our analysts with all the skills they need to know to perform high-level diligence, valuations and research projects to support the day-to-day business of PE & VC firms. Our education is generalized - all students will learn the core financial valuation and modeling education, and also specialized - students will specialize halfway into the education and learn specific valuation and industry techniques associated with either PE or VC. Once placed with a firm, the analyst team is led by a Principal, a student who has served on a diligence team for at least one prior semester and has gone through a competitive selection process. The Principal and the analyst team will remain in frequent contact with the partner firm, ready to provide high-quality deliverables throughout the semester. At present, while Georgetown has a thriving startup community with brilliant founders building amazing businesses, there is a lack of a structured way for founders to find VC funding. This often leads to fantastic ideas going unfunded and ultimately wasted. G-Cap partners with startups on campus to lend our financial acumen to the problem. Every semester, student analyst teams are partnered with 3-4 promising Georgetown startups and are given the task of increasing their network, building the pitch materials for the startup, and modeling out the company’s growth and present valuation metrics.
